Alpine Schools and Comcast provide Back to School Community Resource Fair and Digital Literacy Training

In an era where connectivity is key, access to digital resources and skills is more vital than ever. Recognizing this, Xfinity Comcast, in partnership with Alpine Schools, Frontier Middle School, and the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce, came together to host the Eagle Mountain Digital Connectivity Community Resource Fair. This event, held on Friday, September 22, at Frontier Middle School, aimed to empower students and families by providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age.

The event was a resounding success, attracting a diverse crowd eager to learn and connect. Here's a closer look at this fantastic initiative:

1. Bridging the Digital Divide:

The resource fair's primary objective was to bridge the digital divide in the community. With the advent of online learning and remote work, reliable internet access has become a necessity. In addition to providing the food truck, family fun, and giveaways, Xfinity Comcast played a significant role in this endeavor by offering affordable and high-speed internet options to attendees. Participants were not only connected digitally but also enjoyed an evening of fun and community bonding.

2. Empowering the Next Generation:

For students, digital literacy is a prerequisite for success in academics and beyond. Workshops and training sessions were conducted to enhance digital literacy skills. These sessions covered a range of topics, including internet safety, online research, and effective use of educational software. By imparting these skills, students are better prepared to excel in the digital world. As an extra boost, participants were provided with backpacks, school supplies, and much-needed tech equipment, ensuring they had the tools to succeed.

3. Community Collaboration:

The event was a testament to the power of community collaboration. Alpine Schools, Frontier Middle School, and the Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce united to support the educational needs of their community. Such partnerships exemplify the shared commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to the opportunities offered by the digital age.

4. Net Positive Training:

A standout feature of the event was the inclusion of the "Net Positive" program. Net Positive is dedicated to teaching Utah students and parents how to safely and responsibly use the internet. As part of this program, onsite digital literacy training classes were provided at the fair. These classes equipped attendees with the essential skills required to navigate the digital landscape effectively and responsibly. By offering these training sessions, the event not only aimed to bridge the digital divide but also empower individuals to be informed and responsible digital citizens, ensuring a safer and more positive online experience for all. This proactive approach underscores the commitment to creating a digitally inclusive and respectful online community.

5. Access to Resources:

Besides internet access and digital literacy training, attendees had the opportunity to explore various resources offered by local organizations. From community services to RAD Kids information, the resource fair aimed to provide support to the community's needs. It was a well-rounded approach to address the challenges faced by families.

6. A Step Towards Opportunity:

The Back to School Community Resource Fair and Digital Literacy Training underscore the importance of opportunity in education. It is a reminder that, as a society, we must work together to ensure that no one is left behind in the digital divide. By providing access and knowledge, we empower individuals to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances.

The Eagle Mountain Digital Connectivity Community Resource Fair was a shining example of how public-private partnerships can make a positive impact on a community. It demonstrated that when organizations come together with a shared vision of creating a more connected and digitally literate society, great things can happen. This event was not just about connecting to the internet; it was about connecting people to opportunities, knowledge, and a brighter future.

The Holiday season is both a magical and challenging time for business owners. Whether you're managing increased customer demand or navigating the complexities of holiday closures, it’s essential to stay focused and strike a balance between running your business and enjoying quality time with loved ones. Here’s how you can thrive during the most wonderful (and busiest) time of the year: 1. Plan Ahead for Success Preparation is key to staying on top of your business during the holidays. Create a comprehensive plan for inventory, staffing, and customer communications. If you’re in retail, ensure your shelves are stocked early to avoid last-minute stress. For service-based businesses, consider implementing online booking systems or adjusting your hours to accommodate increased demand. 2. Embrace the Spirit of the Season Bring the holiday cheer to your business! Decorate your space, offer seasonal promotions, and share holiday messages on your social media channels. Engaging in festive activities creates a welcoming atmosphere for customers and builds a sense of community around your brand. 3. Delegate and Automate You can’t do everything alone—and you shouldn’t have to. Empower your team to take ownership of tasks, and lean on automation tools for repetitive processes. Email marketing campaigns, social media posts, and inventory management can all be automated to save you time and energy. 4. Set Boundaries and Prioritize Family As tempting as it is to hustle through the season, don’t forget the importance of spending time with family and friends. Schedule “off” time to fully disconnect and recharge. Communicate your holiday hours clearly to customers so they know when you’ll be available—and when you’ll be prioritizing personal time. 5. Give Back to Your Community The holidays are a perfect time to align your business with a cause. Whether it’s hosting a toy drive, donating a portion of your proceeds, or volunteering as a team, giving back can strengthen your connection to the community and reinforce your brand’s values. We have over 35 nonprofits in our chamber, reach out to us if you would like to partner with them! 6. Prepare for the Post-Holiday Period The rush doesn’t end when the holidays are over. Use this time to plan for the New Year by reviewing your goals, analyzing your holiday performance, and identifying areas for growth. A well-thought-out post-holiday strategy will ensure your business starts the year strong. 7. Practice Gratitude Expressing gratitude to your customers, employees, and partners can go a long way in strengthening relationships. Send thank-you notes, offer exclusive deals to loyal customers, and recognize your team’s hard work during this hectic time. The holiday season is a juggling act for any business owner, but with careful planning, strategic delegation, and a focus on what matters most, you can enjoy both business success and meaningful moments with your family. Remember, the holidays are about connection—and that includes staying connected to the things that make your work worthwhile.
